Cake toppers?

Cake toppers?

Do people still use cake toppers for their wedding cakes? I was thinking about doing something like this http://www.dessertworks.net/pics/weddingnn.jpg for my fall wedding. I wouldn’t be opposed to doing a topper, but haven’t found any I like and think it would be too much (gaudy) for what I want to do. What do you think?
My wedding is September 15th. Oh, and I am leaving out the pumpkins on the cake.
