Do you think it is disrespectful to want to buy a new wedding ring set?

When we got married my husband bought my wedding ring. It is one wide band with diamond in the middle and smaller ones on the side. It has to be worn alone because of the make can’t find a band to go with it. I was thinking about buying a new set ring and band and wearing the one I have on the right hand. I don’t want to be disrespectful though. I have not mentioned this to him, I wanted to get more input. Any Suggestions?

  1. No I don’t think it’s disrespectful at all. It shouldn’t matter what you wear or don’t wear on your hands. IF you want a new ring go for it.

  2. I am planning on changing my wedding set on our 5 year ann. I have seen several women change theirs too. I don’t find it disrespectful especially if you and your husband create a new set together.

  3. I think you should wait to get another one? How many yrs have you been married? A ring is just a symbol of marriage. At least wait until your 10th or 20th wedding Anniversary

  4. I don’t think there is anything wrong with it if you can afford something better now!

  5. If you went behind his back and decided to totally disregard the original ring it would be disrespectful. Tell him the issues you have with the ring and get his opinion first. Let him know you want to wear the original ring on your other finger and tell him you want him to go with you to pick it out. Make him feel as included as possible so he won’t be hurt but in the end it’s how you tackle the situation that makes its respectful or disrespectful.

    How long ago was this?
If it was 5-10 years or so, why don’t you talk about getting a new ring for an anniversary? Actually talk and have a conversation about it though.
I don’t think it would be rude. It’s also possible to use the diamonds in your ring, maybe add more if you want, and just change the setting entirely.

Personally, nothing will replace the “with this ring, I thee wed” ring. So I wouldn’t replace it. My band is .25 carats, white gold. Simple. But I wouldn’t change it for the world.
