How would I dye bridesmaids gowns?

I’m getting married in May and I can’t see to find the color dress I want for my bridesmaid for cheap. I was wondering if anybody could be any tips about dying the dress if my girls get them in white. I want to dye them somewhere along the lines of cornflower blue. Do I need them to get any special fabric? What could go wrong?
