Is getting a CZ wedding ring set stupid?

If I get a realistic looking 3 carat diamond CZ wedding set, do you think people will assume it’s fake because we obviously couldn’t afford such a large ring?

(I had a baby over a year ago, causing my fingers to get a few sizes bigger than I was when I got married 3 years ago. My fingers never went back to their old size so I can’t wear my original rings. While I adore the rings my husband chose because he chose them, they were not a matching set and they clash with each other. My husband feels bad that he couldn’t afford better rings when we got married, and some day plans on buying me an expensive real set, but with the economy the way it is right now, that isn’t happening for a while. I need something to wear in the mean time.)
I went back to the website. I guess I read the specs wrong. The center stone is only 1 carat, with the stones in the setting in is a total of 2.5 carats. Idk where I saw the 3 carats. That makes me feel better! I was mostly concerned that 3 would be ridiculous.

Should I go with a colorless diamond, colored diamond, or colored gemstone for my engagement & wedding rings?

  1. I don’t think it will matter if they are going to be temporary.

  2. It is not “stupid” to want to wear rings on your hand since your original set does not fit.

However, Not very many people get REAL 3-carat wedding sets so I don’t think I would call a 3-carat CZ set “realistic looking”, especially if it is clearly out of your budget & will be obvious that it is a fake.
Does that mean you shouldn’t get it? Not at all. If you happen to like it – go for it!

I purchased a plain band ring — gold over sterling silver – - to wear when I travel because I don’t always want to bring my engagement ring & wedding band with me (I tend to swell a bit when travelling by air).

Get what you like. What other people think doesn’t matter.
You could have your original rings made bigger.
Any ring you buy now will just be a ring not your wedding ring. After 40 years of marriage my father had a small windfall and bought my mother a new wedding ring to replace her original one which had worn thin. My mother hardly ever wore it because it was just a ring. She preferred to wear her wedding ring.

  4. I like CZ, I do, but when you go above two carats, it looks a little gaudy and obviously fake. The big downside to CZ, is that it is not incredibly hard and will scratch and become dull over time. If you plan to replace it down the road anyways, this is a non-issue. Get CZ for now if that’s what you want, but be practical, a 3ct for daily wear isn’t going to work for a mom.

A 1 ct CZ will look fake if people look directly at it, but no one is going to so it won’t be a problem. I think it will look fine.

  6. No one will believe that you can afford a 3 carat ring. Unless you are Jennifer Lopez or Kim Kardashian, everyone will know that the ring is a fake.

I suggest you wear a classic ring, and not all that faux bling bling that is so gaudy and tasteless.

  7. Can’t you have your original rings resized? I’d always rather my real original rings if there was any way to save them. You could also have a jeweler use the metal in them to make you a new ring/rings and that would be very inexpensive, considering you already have the materials.

Why not have your original rings resized? A jeweller can do it, and it costs very little.
